Melba Kurman was hired two and a half years ago by Cornell’s technology transfer office as a full-time Marketing Manager to accelerate Cornell’s technology commercialization efforts. Melba Kurman comes from a marketing background in the high tech industry at Microsoft and other Seattle-area technology companies. Melba will share the vision and marketing strategy she is implementing to raise Cornell’s profile with industry, faculty, VCs, entrepreneurs, angel investors, startups and alums.
Areas covered will be:

Melba Kurman manages marketing and outreach efforts at Cornell's tech transfer office, as part of the Center for Technology Enterprise and Commercialization (CCTEC). She has managed the creation of several web portals, including MyIP(TM) which is now being made available to other technology transfer offices. In addition, she writes CCTEC's publication content, designed and manages CCTEC’s brand identity, and interacts with media on PR activities. As the first-ever marketing person at CCTEC two and a half years ago, Melba had the rare opportunity to build CCTEC’s marketing strategy from scratch, re-designing the web site, building a search engine, and instituting the first Annual Report and regular news bulletins. Melba’s most recent software project is an online investment portal to connect angel investors to startups that are associated with Cornell. Prior to joining CCTEC, Melba spent nearly a decade in the technology industry in the Pacific Northwest doing marketing and managing software projects at Microsoft and other technology companies. Melba graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Communications and a Master’s degree from the University of Illinois.
